Su Refugio Guitar Program

From Cassandra l Sorensen

Hello Friends! We're starting a guitar school for “barrio kids” in the Paraguayan town of Tobatí. I know them from a children's program I've been volunteering at for over a year, hosted by Su Refugio Ministries

I've had some small opportunities to explore a little bit of music with the kids, mostly by singing together. After we received donations of several guitars, we started including that in the children's program, and launched a pilot project offering guitar lessons to some of the girls in Su Refugio's children safehouse. When we were all encouraged by the results, we decided to expand.

So for the rest of this year the guitar school will run every Friday, with a limit of thirty students. We've had our first few lessons already, and the children have shown remarkable determination, walking several miles to be there on time. But since they are poor and the ministry has many expenses, we need to budget this separately and have it paid for by donations.

The goal of this fundraiser is $2,000. That would come to $4 per child per lesson from May until December and would cover wage, administration, maintenance, and one or two extras like perhaps improve the transportation situation for the kids.
