I'm raising money to help pay for my Study Abroad trip to the Netherlands and Belgium~! The course plans our trip around visiting anthropology and natural history museums.
Course Description: These two countries have among the longest and most continuous traditions of preserving, interpreting and exhibiting anatomical, osteological, paleontological, anthropological, ethnographic and archaeological materials. During spring break week, students will compare and contrast national, natural history, antiquities and ethnographic museums in Leiden, Amsterdam and Brussels.
Museums are of intrinsic value to anthropology, history, conservation biology, paleontology, political science, the humanities, business and education. The course will allow students a comparative perspective upon which to embark on studies in and studies of museums. The international context will expose students to different cultures and students will formulate new ideas about the curation and exhibition of material culture. Students will also be introduced to Dutch, Flemish and French cultural differences with the US, and the unique history and geography of the Low Countries.
