Steve Strauss, a lifelong friend, died suddenly on July 20th due to complications from a stroke at age 52. I am setting up a memorial fund to help pay for the continued education of his two college-aged children.
Steve Strauss has been a member of our extended family since his wife, Christine, a best friend from childhood, called me almost 30 years ago to let me know she just met "a keeper".
Steve, 52, died suddenly on July 20th shortly after complications from a stroke. He was spending the summer, as he had been since childhood, at his family home in Amagansett, New York. The family also lost Steve's beloved Irish Wolfhound, Skepna, due to failing health on July 22nd.
Steve was a Latin teacher at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo for over 20 years. His passion for learning could be noted as he quietly read his latest history tome on the porch of the beach house - one of his favorite pastimes.
To honor his commitment to education, I've established this account to help his family with college expenses for his daughter Anne, a junior at Ohio University, and his son, Christopher, who will be studying for his MBA at University of Toledo.
All funds raised will go directly to this purpose.
In lieu of a traditional funeral, the family will be holding a small private memorial at the dunes near his summer home.
