My story:

For years I’ve lived with chronic physical pain and inflammatory disorders in my body, and recently I've experienced numerous health complications due to uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts.  My own pain has fueled my desire to help prevent this level of pain and discomfort for others by learning the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® and incorporating them into my bodywork and wellness sessions with clients.  Sadly medical options are limited for all the ailments and imbalances that I and many others deal with on a regular basis. With regards to uterine and womb health, the best that western medicine can offer is surgery or do nothing.

For those who don't know, fibroids are benign tumors that grow in the uterus, something that at least 40% of people with vaginas and uteruses experience, and they are more common in uteruses over the age of 40. They don't always cause issues but when they do, those issues can be horribly debilitating! Most common are pain and excessive bleeding, but fibroids can result in other uncomfortable experiences. For me, this most recent episode threw my entire body out of whack and had me out of commission much of the time, which resulted in many days of missed work, lost income, and increasing bills for self-care to stay alive.

Many times this month, I asked the question, "How does someone bleed for this long and not die?" as I experienced cramping, uterine and abdominal pain and heaviness, hair loss, mood swings, heart palpitations, dizziness, nausea, skin irritation and rashes, nutrient depletion, flooding of blood, and a whole slew of other symptoms. Western medicine couldn't do anything for my excessive bleeding or other symptoms, as my limited Mass Health insurance wouldn't cover the only prescription to curb the bleeding, or any of the other treatments necessary to remain somewhat functional whilst losing so much blood. I had to take time off from work to rest and take care of myself, as I cannot fill from an empty cup. It's been burdensome and so humbling. The past few months, I've had countless doctors’ visits, herbal consults, sessions with holistic and integrative practitioners, and a major need for bodywork and energy work, as this level of yin deficiency and stagnation leads to terribly stiff muscles and joints, muscle spasms, and difficulty moving.

My Goal:

Unfortunately this and many other diseases and ailments of the sexual and reproductive organs are issues that too many women and individuals with wombs, uteruses, vaginas, and ovaries must face in life. Highly invasive procedures that can cause many complications are what most doctors recommend due to lack of understanding of natural, ancient indigenous practices of healing. This whole experience has renewed my passion to assist others through their experiences regarding pelvic, abdominal, womb, and vaginal health. I want to be a support and holistic hands-on option for others looking to find balance between medical options, holistic, and integrative care, and to help others feel empowered and powerful even when their bodies are lying and saying otherwise.

Thus I'm requesting assistance from the community to help support my attendance at a training program in New Mexico through the Arvigo® Institute, and to receive holistic and integrative treatments for my own conditions and health imbalances. The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® were developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo through her apprenticeship with the late Don Elijio Panti of Belize. These techniques are a blend of bodywork, traditional remedies, nutritional guidance, herbal knowledge, and spiritual healing to support the body in returning to a state of restoration and balance. This tradition can be especially supportive for embodiment, integration and the release of many forms of trauma, and can support and assist in management and treatment of the following reproductive, digestive and structural concerns:

-Menstrual conditions

-Ovarian cysts.

-GERD, IBS, and Crohn’s disease

-Adhesions and scarring

-Chronic fatigue

-Chronic pain

Through personal experience and the experiences of my friends, family and clients, I know that women's healthcare and sexual health resources are greatly lacking, and we need more holistic alternatives that can support all phases of womb health and wellness. I wish to be one of these alternatives and need your help to receive the training that will allow me to become that resource for others.
