Update #11

Thank you all for your wonderful support and encouragement. I saw you reflected in the crowds of supporters (1 million of them) who cheered (very loudly) for all26.2 miles. I can sum up the experience as being cathartic, emotional and challenging. Oh and incredibly awesome.
On the competive side of things, I was only 2 hours and 10 minutes behind Meb, the first American to win in over 30 years. The last half of course was incredibly challenging. However I still placed 74/300 in my age group. Heartfelt thanks again. I'll be closing the fundraiser account in a few days.

2014 is dedicated to me turning 60! I will be running the Boston Marathon this year and have a dream of setting a PR of under 4 hours! The marathon raises a lot of money for charities  and this year I'd like to make a contribution as well.I'm running 26.2 miles on April 21 and am hoping folks will contribute $26 to my charity. But no amount is too small (or large). Funds will be given to a CWU foundation account dedicated to Step Up.  I've decided that I want to raise money to fund leadership opportunities for our student athletes. I was once a student athlete! I have spent most of my career in higher education addressing the safety of students ...alcohol and drug issues, suicide prevention, sexual violence ....Helping student athletes take a role in addressing these issues is a key to success. Please join me in supporting student athletes become the leaders of tomorrow while addressing the  social concerns of today.

April 15-Check Out My Latest Campaign Update

I was listening to the radio this morning before heading out for a 4 mile run on the John Wayne Trail. I heard the first of what was likely many news reports commemorating last year's Boston's bombings. I found myself weeping and had to drag myself out of the car. Mind you my two standard poodles did a little dragging too as they were tired of waiting for me to hit the trail. I'm heading over to Seattle tonight to catch an early morning flight to Boston. Next update I'll share some pictures of the Boston Athletic Association's 5K race on Saturday. Me and 10,000 of my tribe! Thank you all for your kind words of support and your generosity in contributing to my fundraiser. We are Boston Strong!

21 days til Boston- Check Out My Latest Campaign Update

21 days to go! Finished my last long run on Saturday and now it is time to taper. My foot held out til about mile 17 and then I had to walk intermittently. A reminder that I'll have to pay attention when I hit the Newton Hills and Heartbreak Hill towards the latter part of Boston. This picture is from the water tower looking over campus towards the Stuarts at about 6:45 this morning during my run. Beauty day in the Burg. Thanks for all your support...it really means a great deal. Help me reach my campaign goal on #Fundly! You can donate as much or little as you want. Please let your friends know about the scholarship campaign. Check it out: http://fundly.com/step-up-student-athlete-leadership-campaign

Check Out My Latest Campaign Update

Training is going very well. Just under 7 weeks to go. I ran two half marathon races in the past two weeks. I ran an 8:54 pace in the Richland Half and yesterday I ran an 8:30 pace in the Lake Sammamish Half. Wowza! An all time personal best for me. And I felt great. Check Out My Latest Campaign Update Feb 22

Completed another 30 miles this week. Tuesday night track night and the Community 5K race pace nights are really helping. I ran my first "race" since turning 60 and managed a PR in the half marathon. Have to admit to feeling pretty spent at the end though. Donations have really trailed off. If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting the scholarship fund, please send them the link. Check it out: http://fundly.com/step-up-student-athlete-leadership-campaign

Check Out My Latest Campaign Update

Had a set back this week. Serious back spasms after my 13 miler last Saturday that lasted most of the week. Was able to stretch a little yesterday and ran a slow 5 miles this morning. My new mantra "Core, Core, Core and More Core". Strengthening core muscles will be good prevention for recurring back issues. Good thing I'm in pretty good running shape so that missing most of the week won't be too big a deal. Help me reach my campaign goal on #Fundly! You can donate as much or little as you want. Check Out My Latest Campaign Update

I've completed 16/64 workouts getting ready to run Boston. Well over 100 miles so far. Will probably run about 500 miles before I run Boston on April 21. The Boston Athletic Assoc raises more than $12 million a year for charities. I'm trying to raise $5000 for student athletes. You can donate as much or little as you want.
