Nely and her family fled rampant gang violence and religious persecution in Guatemala. When she and her family arrived in the United States, they tried to follow the rules. For some reason, while Nely’s family was released while they worked their way through the convoluted immigration system, Nely was imprisoned in a detention center for over 14 months. She was given no legal justification for her detention. For over a year, she survived a pandemic, shoddy medical care, and substandard living conditions. It was only after Adelante filed a writ of habeas corpus that she was released.
Nely and her family are currently in Tennessee, but they would like to relocate to another state, where they have a sponsor who is willing to provide a home for them. This is why we’re writing to you. Adelante is hosting a fundraiser to help Nely and her family.
100% of any donations you make during this fundraiser will be given to Nely and her family, no strings attached.
They plan to use the money to cover transportation costs to their new home and basic necessities like food and clothes. Our sincere wish is that they have some extra money left over to build a new life.
