Thank you so much for the support everyone.... $1497 and going strong!
There is so much growing now. Cucumbers, watermelon, corn, peas, greenbeans, lettuce, sweet potato, kale.... and this is just a start.
We just finished building the 3rd stacked stone raised bed that will allow us to grow carrots, onions, beets, and a whole bunch more root crops.
We have planned and designed the plant nursery and are ording the supplies for it as the money comes in. I would love to get started on it by the end of this week.
Thank you for the support and please share with all of your friends, remember even small donations $5 or $10 is a big help!!!

More Info

Nusa Lembongan is a magical little island about 40 minutes off the coast of Bali, Indonesia and it needs your help!

With a population of approximately 5000 locals and plenty of farmable land, still 80-90% of the produce consumed on the island is shipped in from neighboring islands and Bali. There is no reliable source of fresh organic produce on the island and without the support of food imported by boat, this community would not survive. This fundraiser is raising starting costs for an Organic Permaculture Garden on the island, which will serve as a model to teach the community about the opportunities and benefits of regenerative farming/gardening.

The economy here has been focused mainly on tourism for many years and has severely suffered from the lockdowns and closed borders during the Pandemic. Many families struggled to survive and even though the borders have recently opened, and a little bit of money is coming in from outside, we are still in uncertain times. A lot of locals are not yet back on their feet and if the situation changes and tourism is stopped again, there will be severe economic collapse here. We can hedge against such a horrible outcome by promoting a way for the locals to effectively take care of themselves and their families through permaculture.

This garden, The Garden of Abundance, is a model of how the land that currently only grows Banana and Cassava, and even the land that grows nothing at all, can be quickly transformed into a garden producing all the dietary needs for several large families. The Garden of Abundance is a project focused on empowerment, not just charity, showing locals as well as foreigners the potential of a small piece of land when planned and managed correctly. And effectively creating the foundation for a new economic structure built around sustainability, care for the earth, community, empowerment, and healthy organic products.

The Garden of Abundance is just the start. Once our working model is created, workshops, events, products, and other sources of income will be established, each one creating much-needed jobs for locals. Profits brought in from this will be put toward transforming other pieces of land and inspiring other local families with potential businesses. We also have a plan to build an Education Center focused around teaching all things sustainable… Permaculture, nature preservation, zero-waste techniques, ocean conservation, and much more. Our north star, our light at the end of the tunnel is an island that is as close to 100% sustainable as physically possible.

All donations benefit…

The Earth – by teaching and implementing sustainable and regenerative farming techniques

People – Creating a sustainable food source for the community and jobs for local families

The Economy – building a foundation for a sustainable economic model that can spread throughout Indonesia and the world.

Yourself – As selfless and generous as giving is, it is actually good for you! Boosting your self-image, cultivating self-love, and creating a sense of pride in your ability to support mother earth and the people living here.

Future Generations – Permaculture/sustainability education will teach the future generations a better way to care for it and the rest of the world. Regenerative farming techniques restore the soil and rebuild balanced ecosystems, actually leaving the earth better than we found it.

What we have….

·        We have teamed up with a local family who is donating a 5.6are (560 m2) piece of land to the project.

·        A dedicated Permaculture/sustainability designer who is committed to making this dream a reality.

·        The support of a beautiful community here on Nusa Lembongan.

·        Plenty of local restaurants that would benefit from having locally sourced organic produce.

·        An abundance of land to expand the project in the future.

·        A local source for compost, mulch, and manure

What we NEED to get started:

·        At least 1 full-time local garden helper who is dedicated to learning all aspects of permaculture.

·        Compost/Mulch/Manure/Biochar to get started (eventually the garden will produce its own)

·        Seeds… LOTS OF SEEDS!

·        Construction supplies for a seedling nursery, a mushroom house, and shade structures for part of the garden.

·        Tools

·        Day labor expenses for help with construction and busy days

·        A sustainable wage for the permaculture designer/manager

·        A small budget for miscellaneous expenses.

Our Goal is $8000

This will cover the first 6 months' cost until the garden can sustain itself with revenue.

The Creator

My name is Allen Reed, I am the founder of Sustainable Intentions, a permaculture designer, garden enthusiast, and all-around Green Thumb. I know that I was put on this planet to make a difference and one of the best ways I know how is by promoting and educating people on permaculture and sustainability.

It is my dream not only to build The Garden of Abundance and a permaculture/sustainable education center but to create an economic model that is based on empowerment before profit. To show that by building community, collaborating, and sharing resources we can reverse our negative impact on our planet and to the mental health of our fellow humans.

I have traveled to many parts of the globe working on permaculture, regenerative farming, sustainable building, and similar projects. From Thailand to Costa Rica, the jungles of Mexico to the lush farmland of SW England, no matter the cultural and geographical differences I have always found beautiful people passionate about creating a better way for themselves, their communities, and our planet.

Now that I have settled here in Nusa Lembongan and decided to make it my long-term home it is time for me to fulfill my Dharma and start bringing my dreams into reality. For months I have been looking at land, talking to locals, and sharing my ideas with whoever will listen. Now with the first piece of land agreed upon the only thing holding this back from blooming into full reality are these start-up costs. Then the idea came to me, to overcome my pride and reach out for help from my loved ones and community.

Every single dollar that is donated is going toward helping my dreams come true, so thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Our local heroes

We are so blessed that a beautiful local family is letting us use their land for The Garden of Abundance. Dollar and his family have agreed to be a part of this amazing permaculture project literally saying, “As long as we can make something positive for the community.” This level of faith and generosity is what is going to create an amazing future for Nusa Lembongan and the lovely people that live here.

Dollar is a local surf instructor and an active community member. He is always finding new ways to lift his local community and improve the lives of all those around him. This includes supporting another sustainability project that is empowering local seaweed farmers by helping them create products out of the seaweed they farm (For more information on this project check out @thecubeseaweed on IG) Dollar, his father, and his grandfather are the ones currently taking care of the banana and cassava growing on the land, all three of them love working in the garden and are excited to see what is possible with this new project.

The Abundance Garden is a beautiful way for them to pave the way for a stronger community, a more stable economy, and a healthier and happier Nusa Lembongan.

Thank You!!!

Thank you so much for your support!!! Every single dollar, every like, every share, we are extremely grateful for.  Our goal is $8000 but every penny counts and we will continue to gather our own abundance and share our own time and energy regardless of how much we raise.

Keep checking in for updates and progress and don’t forget to follow us on social media to keep up to date on the epic project your donation is supporting.

Update #3

So exactly 8 days ago I broke ground and started working in the garden... I started this fundraiser just a few days before that. So far we have raised about $750, Which is AMAZING!
With the money, I have paid for a month of my helper's wages, bought a stock of garden tools, and paid for 2 cubic meters of Compost. Sometime this week I am going to take the boat over to Bali and buy a bunch of seeds, some cuttings, and maybe even a few trees. Also, my friend Wayan is giving me a small bee hive house, to hopefully transplant the beehive that we found in one of the huge piles of rocks on the land. (So awesome that we have honey bees already on the land!!!!)
The first seeds have been planted in the first raised garden bed and the other 3 beds are going to be completed in the next couple of days!
Things are moving so fast and running so smoothly, and none of it would be possible with out all of the support I have recieved from all of you! Thank you SOOOOO MUCH!
and I look forward to sharing more very soon!

Update #2

So we are 8 days into the fundraiser and 5 days into the garden!

We have raised almost $600 which is absolutely amazing!!! I recently purchased some more tools, I have hired a local helper, who is just overjoyed to be working in the garden with me. We have cleared out a large amount of space by moving a dozen banana trees to the edge of the garden. and as soon as the compost is ready we will be starting the first set of raised garden beds and planting a bunch of veggies!

We are almost at 10% of our goal and still need a substantial amount to keep everything moving at the pace that it is. Please share this fundraiser with anyone that you think would be called to support this beautiful project.

Thank you so much, and stay tuned for more updates

Update #1

Wow, Thank you so much for all of the support already!!! Almost $300 in less than 2 days. This is going directly to the order of compost I made to get the raised beds started, with $ left over for seeds, tools, and some compost containers to give out to people on the island to collect their kitchen scraps!
I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss the garden design and the first steps to get started!
It is so amazing all of this is really happening, I look forward to giving all of you supporters some epic updates in the next days to come!
