Support college students in exploring international development opportunities and building resilient communities in the urban and rural areas of Senegal.
Cultural Lenses is a student-led group driven to encourage African-American college students to travel to the continent of Africa. Our mission is to provide students, from different disciplines, the opportunity to approach these solutions with their unique perspectives and introduce them to the possibilities of international development while facilitating personal growth and cultural context.
As climate change manifests, the Sahel is in danger of further desertification due to climates being drier, thus straining water resources. Deforestation for cash crops is degrading the land as well and introducing harmful compounds to the waterways.
The objective of the trip is to expose students to the trans-disciplinary nature of sustainability to help increase the food security in the Sahel, as well as Washington DC, address climate change through academic-specific approaches, and by introducing them to student exchange and multicultural experiences.
