Sphero Bolt for Terra Linda's Makerspace

I am Rishika Batheja. I am the new Technology Instructional Assistant at Terra Linda Elementary. I meet with classes during their Technology specials, both in the computer lab and in our Makerspace.

Three years ago Terra Linda had the idea to build a Makerspace. We started gathering items and working with our PTC to purchase addition items. Last year we moved into an official space. Teachers could sign up to use the space, and we started incorporating the space into our Technology specials. Our goal is to expand how we use the Makerspace to provide students with more access. I am always looking for more ways to use the Makerspace because it seems to be the best way to engage our students in science and technology exploration and inquiry.

I would like to add Spheros to our Makerspace inventory. Spheros provide students with the opportunity to practice coding and to see their efforts in action with real objects. Many coding programs result in moving images on a screen. Spheros roll across the ground according to code program. I’ve seen the sparkle in students’ eyes as they work with other real objects. I look forward to incorporating Spheros into my instruction with all grade levels! Please help us by contributing to the purchase of new Spheros for Terra Linda’s Makerspace!

BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom, summer and after-school programs.

In the event that this project does not reach its goal, BEF may apply the funds received to another project in need.
