Update #4

Thanks for the great support of the Special K's Fall Throwdown event yesterday! With registration fees and donations received at the crossfit event, along with the online giving, we have exceeded $5000!

This is huge for the Special K's! We receive no money from Special Olympics of Georgia, nor any other entity. Unlike many agencies, we are not associated with a county or city. We must fund all of our competitions, activities, uniforms and equipment and we are forbidden from charging a participation fee (rightly so) to our athletes.

The Special K's cannot thank Christy Butch enough for leading the Throwdown again. On top of the great fundraising result, she has perfected an event that is inclusive of our athletes. Christy, we are so lucky to have you, your family, and your friends from Crossfit North Fulton championing the Special K's!

Huge shout out to Cindy Rooker from the Roswell PD. She leads the way in our access to RAPSTC (obstacle course location) and making sure the venue is ready for our athletes!

We also extend our appreciation to the athletes, family members, partners and coaches who volunteered on Saturday. Thanks for being there on such a brisk morning!

Special thanks to Michael and Stephen. With no previous association with our group, they signed up and were a huge help assisting athletes on the obstacle course.

Let's do it gain next year!

Online giving is still possible until the end of this month. Please continue to share this website with friends and family.

More Info

For 25 years, Special K's has provided an opportunity for local Special Olympians to train and compete.    Last fall the Special K's Throwdown raised enough money to help our program get through the year.    Funds raised went to competition fees, equipment, and uniforms.   The proceeds supported our athletes in basketball, bowling, cross country, soccer, swimming, and track.  Our athletes, their families, and our coaches cannot thank you enough!

In addition to many medals and ribbons , Special K's athletes have received other notable honors this year.   Our soccer program will be representing Georgia at the USA Games in Seattle in July 2018.   One of our long distance runners is Georgia's nominee to run the torch leading up to the USA Games.  Another athlete recently completed the Torch Run at the Fall Games in October.

As more and more athletes are drawn to Special K's programs, our need to raise funds is increased.   Whether it be participation in our obstacle course competition or an online donation, please know that you are making a difference with our Special K's.   As you can see from the pictures, there is much joy in our athletes and coaches.  Win or lose, they embody the Special Olympics oath-  "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."

Update #3

Between donations on this site and those made through the mail, we are 50% of the way to our goal! We have had several donations from families and friends of our unified partners. Unified partners are non disabled peers of our traditional athletes. They compete along side each other, forming friendships and having lots of fun together. Your donations will help Special K's continue our great tradition of unified sports programs! T

Update #2

Thanks to all who have contributed to Special K's! Your donations make a huge difference to our athletes. I noticed two recent donations came from Special K's coaches. Our program could not exist without them! We are fortunate to have amazing volunteers who love and guide our Superstars. Just as our organization must cover competition fees for our athletes, we also pay for each coach we send to State Games. Your support helps build the great teamwork that is a hallmark of the Special K's!
