Sarepta Women and Children Empowerment Center, Inc. is raising funds to provide emergency and disaster relief efforts, temporary modular shelter for families, healthcare, and to cover logistics operations.
On August 14th of 2021 an earthquake of 7.2 magnitudes hit Southern Haiti, destroying many cities and towns among others Les Cayes, Camp-Perrin, Maniche, Beaumont, Pestel, Jérémie, Petit Trou de Nippes, Anse à Veau, and so forth. Days later, affected regions and vulnerable populations have been hit again by Tropical Storm Grace. We are yet again at the same crossroad 11 years ago when the earthquake of 7.0 magnitudes hit the capital city of Port-au-Prince on January 12th 2010. We have not forgotten January 12th as we are still grieving the loss and healing the wounds but we are forced to re-live this trauma again. People are joining hands in removing the wounded under the rubble and seeking care, and helping to take care of the dead. We are in shock as we are processing and making sense of the magnitude of what has just happened. In the days that will follow, dealing with this issue in all its complexities will be a daunting task. But, we are strong ; we are getting back on our feet. We are now in a full scale humanitarian crisis compounded by health, security, housing, and logistical hurdles. We need all the help we can get, but also, we need effective coordination so that actions can be targeted, effective, and efficient. Southern Haiti Disaster Rapid Response and Humanitarian Initiative of Sarepta Women and Children Empowerment Center, Inc. launch disaster relief and humanitarian efforts to provide assistance and support coordinated actions in Les Cayes, Camp-Perrin, Maniche, and Beaumont to provide emergency and disaster relief efforts, temporary modular shelter for families, healthcare, and logistics operations. Our thanks go to many and all on the ground and abroad assisting and supporting those in dire needs.
