Help us raise money to create a healing haven for mindful travelers of color #healblacklives
The What: Stable and Iiberal Costa Rica has an awesome reputation as a destination for North American and European travelers, investors and retirees, mostly white. Our goal is to amplify that definition by creating a center for people of color to expand their consciousness, balance their emotions and improve their health in a peaceful place of natural wonder where they have been invisible.
The few black travelers who visit Costa Rica tend to explore the Carribean coast which is the region where most citizens of Afro-West Indian descent live--a legacy of British imperialism brought to build railways and work plantations. These are beautiful, vibrant communities, but this limitation of choice perpetuates the original exploitation by validating this segregation. Our intention is to create a Soul-Retreat for the body, mind, spirit and heart-centered renewal of adventurous sojourners of color and for any and all who share the principle that all humankind is of one with nature. We are blessed to have a swath of undeveloped land to devote to this effort. What distinguishes this appeal for support is our intention to create a place of healing, growth, and expansion in a destination that black-skinned people typically do not imagine themselves visiting.
The Where: The location is Montezuma, at the far south of the Nicoya peninsula on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Dismissively known as a hippie hideout in guide books, the natural beauty of sea, forest and sky brought rich, white foreigners, who built discreet vacation homes at the ends of long unpaved roads. Our great fortune is the opportunity to develop and sustain a pristine property purchased decades ago by a colleague of Buckminster Fuller--the inventor of the Geodesic Dome--and a visionary architect in his own right, Tony Gwilliam. The What: Tony has had his hands full growing an eco-village in Bali and entrusted to apply this vision to building shelter and creating a healing community on this share of earth. His contribution is the G-home concept, a simple frame structure made of any sustainable material available. It is an inexpensive and endlessly customizable shelter model that we intend to build, with your help, as a shining example of black, peaceful and sustainable living in Latin America. For more information on G-home go to: https://ghome.studio/. Planned features on this 5000 sq. meter plot of land include sustainable accommodations, structures protecting the resident spring and seasonal stream from contamination, rainwater harvesting and solar power generation. A large portion of land will be dedicated to demonstrating and instructing tropical permaculture methods.High-minded intentions aside, the point of this request for your support is to make healing and fun happen. This forest, this proposed laboratory of empowerment; home to wild animals and gorgeous winged creatures, lies only a few minutes walk from the comforts of a mellow town and the succor of the sea. Musicians, thinkers, vegans, writers, dancers and, especially, kick-ass black surfers will find all their outlets.
