Update #4

Hi Guys! The event was everything I'd imagined and more! I am grateful for every bit of help. Unfortunately with all the volunteer tickets given out and industry invite tickets I am thousands of dollars in debt still and all possible credit lines were used up... which prevents me moving forward on these new projects (a completely finished, recorded, song to sheet music is an average of $500).
If anyone can possibly help out my fundraiser still in these last couple weeks for my birthday... I would be so grateful. I know someday I will be earning income to pay for my own projects, but for now it is a leap of faith. Join me to put a woman's voice stage telling a woman's story. I can send a private video link of highlights bits for any $50+ donation.

More Info

"Songs from my Closet" is a musical in itself.. unveiling the past 5 years of inspired musical and song writing. Acted and sung by some of the valley's most beloved performers... this event at the Kerr Cultural Center will take the audience through select songs from new musicals that also chronicle my personal journey as a songwriter. But it's more than an event... it's a life-changing preservation of my work... please read below what this really means for me! Donations are accepted after the event as well, to help continue the sheet music preparations and recordings. The true cost of the event and all the music preservation leading up to it was $8,000.

Why it's much more than a show:   It's lots of work for this reveal... "intensive and expensive" ... but I would rather be penniless for a while than never have my creations heard or preserved. It's a leap of faith to follow inspiration's path and even if most the cost ends up being mostly on me it will have been worth the sacrifice...

You see, the preparation of this event allows me to preserve and copyright 5 years of music and story writing with recordings and dozens of songs finished and put into professional sheet music, and a taped recording of the show from which I can use portions for submissions for opportunities to carry some of these musicals to future full productions.

Besides the important progress, preservation, and exposure of my music, the unique experience the audience will have that night will be worth more than the suggested admission:  Our talented cast of about 20 artists will perform 25+ full or shortened versions of new songs from original musicals will be heard for the first time that night - some with choreography! As a bonus - three exciting songs/scenes I wrote will be played out from a musical version of a cult-classic movie involving a Princess Bride, including a unique instrumental chamber group accompanying the beautiful mezzo-soprano Jillian Smith performing "As you Wish!". This may be the only time these songs are performed because I do not have the rights to the actual musical... (but the story of why I wrote them is in the show!)

What the musical is about: A writer (played by Brandi Bigley) trusts inspiration to switch paths despite discouragement and doubt, as she makes her creations come alive on the stage while sharing the stories of their creations. The original musicals that will reveal their songs are: Uprooted! (my first baby), The Bachelor Prince (will be workshopped /produced in early 2019), and a couple songs from Community Theatre (a musical in the near future) as well as the songs from the above-mentioned (unofficial) Princess Bride and a few personal songs I wrote for myself while on this journey of honoring my path to become a composer/writer in mid-life.

I also am excited to have Sarah Pansing reveal the first (of what I hope will be several) future collaborative ventures with the Maya Angelou foundation to put her poems to music. Licensing for her poem and this performance has been in the works since September... it is paid for and complete. Maya's words, the singer's voice, (and I don't mind saying - the music composed that honors the words) is an absolutely stunning combination that will result in an unforgettable performance!

Any donations are appreciated (and tax deductible through AYT)! Music sheet productions, recordings, and musicians/rehearsals are the largest cost that has to be paid weekly, and add up to even more than the venue...  but now all this music is becoming real and preserved!  The singers/actors are volunteering their time and without their generosity, all of this would be out of reach.

Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much." I am honored and indebted also to all of those volunteers and donors helping to make this happen with their time as well, without them nothing would happen. Much love and gratitude. Colleen

Update #2

Sheet music is being edited and finalized like crazy with rehearsals beginning for individuals and my fantastic pianists. I'm up all hours working on the script. The progress is incredible and real now, but I've had to set aside a lot of other ventures for a while, including some of those that used to have income attached... and right now the weekly cost for all this has been $500 a week. leaving a huge gap between income and output, so I decided to re-open this funding page as I had a few people asking where it went! Thanksgiving was a bad week to put it out there though. Any donations are appreciated to help prop the door open for this reveal!
