We are raising funds to kickstart our eSports Program, helping our student athletes add more extracurricular activities to boost student success!
When I started SoCal Hoops back in 2014, I wanted to create a platform to help student athletes develop their skills on the court, but also more importantly, create opportunities to help advance their educational goals. Back in 2014, I offered a mobile app development contest where our players developed and launched their own mobile apps in the Apple App Store.(click here to read more)
School educators and administrators know that taking part in extracurricular activities boosts student success. A lot. Regardless of the activity, whether it be the chess club, football team, or e-sports program, studies have definitely shown that students who are involved in extracurricular activities are more successful in a number of ways.
With our training program and off-court initiatives, many players have been able to separate themselves from other players and students, showing schools they are more than just basketball players. Many SoCal Hoops players have played or are currently playing prominent roles at several local high schools including but not limited to St. Genevieve, Granada Hills, Kennedy, Notre Dame, Chatsworth, Chaminade, El Camino, Grant, Oaks Christian, and Harvard Westlake.
e-Sports is here to stay, as a spectator sport and as an industry. It’s becoming more prevalent in colleges and in high schools. Competitive gaming has become a billion-dollar business and is projected to grow exponentially. The prevalence of esports in schools is likewise rapidly expanding.
I want to kickstart another off-court initiative to help our kids further separate themselves from other students by launching the SoCal Hoops eSports Program. The program will be designed to allow our players to form competitive e-sports teams and compete in local and national events. Our players will be able to add this valuable experience to their resumes and further separate themselves from other student athletes. Please note that this program is not just an opportunity to play games, it will allow our players to learn the valuable lessons of:
In order to launch this initiative, I have a goal to secure $12,000 in funding by the end of 2021 to help cover equipment, operational, and program costs. We need to purchase gaming consoles, equipment, monitors, and team gear. With your support, I want to purchase a small mobile gaming trailer for our kids! Yes, a small trailer where we can play games AND watch game film.
I am asking all SoCal Hoops families to help contribute to this funding goal by donating directly to the campaign and/or helping secure funds from outside sources (businesses, co-workers, friends, and family members). All donations toward the SoCal Hoops eSports Program are 100% tax deductible under the IRS 501c3 tax code.
Thank you for your support!!!
