With your help we will SILENCE THE GENERATORS and preserve the sights and sounds of our beloved campgrounds. The goal in Phase I is to install a permanent electrical infrastructure in time for the 2020 festival. Old Settler’s will take advantage of a renewable wind power program to supply 20, 30, and 50amp service to campsites and power up the Campground Stage as well as the vendor area along the main road.
To support our SUSTAINABILITY GOAL of attaining a zero-carbon footprint by 2040, we must eliminate the use of campground generators. By doing so, we will stop burning almost 6,000 gallons of diesel fuel, which produces 60 tons of CO2 emissions each festival. Installing a permanent green energy electrical infrastructure is a powerful first step in reducing our environmental footprint.
Renting campground generators is not only UNSUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTALLY, it’s also unsustainable financially. Supplying electricity to campers was the second largest expense for last year’s festival, making it impossible to recover even a small portion of that cost through the sale of electrical permits.
With a keen focus on sustainability, providing GREEN POWER to the campgrounds, and preserving the camping experience, the plan is to install an overhead power line carrying renewable energy along the main road. The electrical distribution will be underground throughout Campgrounds Armadillo and Banjo. In Campground Collings, distribution will be along the caliche roads to leave plenty of room for primitive camping.
To ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL, as the saying goes, it takes a village! The Old Settler’s village is teeming with friends and family with a bright spirit, a loving passion, a commitment to sustainability, and a drive to pull together in times of need. Now is the time to come together to preserve our magical vibe and go green. Send your donation today to put renewable power in the campgrounds!
