The Sigma Chi Fraternity at The University of West Florida would like to invite you to participate in our Derby Days philanthropic event. The purpose of this event is to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institution.
Derby Days, founded in 1916 at the University of California, Berkley, offers an excellent advertising and continued public relations while making a contribution to a deserving cause. Since its inception, Derby days has raised more than $7 million for various philanthropies. Our chapter’s partnership with The Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) has helped to generate funds and awareness programs to benefit children and affiliated hospitals.
For those of you not familiar with this organization, HCI is recognized as a Designated Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute, meaning that it meets the highest standards for cancer care and research, and receives support for its scientific endeavors. HCI scientists focus on understanding cancer from its beginning to create safer and more effective treatments for the disease. Researchers also investigate how genes function to discover possible methods of preventing, circumventing and even reversing the genetic causes of cancer. Founded and supported by one of our most distinguished and significant brothers, Order of Constantine Sig and Significant Sig Jon Huntsman Sr., Pennsylvania 1959, HCI provides us with the opportunity to support a good cause with a noble purpose.
