My brother Stephen was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth. My family and I weren't sure how far along he would make it. Stephen does not have full use of his legs so he wears braces everyday and walks with crutches. Thankfully, Stephen is a very determined young man and has set some pretty high goals! A few years ago Stephen became involved with wheelchair racing, as well as track and field events, swimming, and archery through Children’s Lightning Wheels. Children’s Lightning Wheels is a Paralympic Sports Club who welcomes those with physical disabilities. Children’s Lightning Wheels has really helped my brother succeed and become a star athlete. Stephen is also a member of his high school Track and Field, and Cross Country Teams where he is able to “run” by competing in his wheelchair racer. He is the FIRST disabled athlete to become a member of his high school’s running teams!! Stephen has been so lucky to compete on the state level, and has even received a varsity letter. Stephen is only a sophomore.
Last summer Stephen competed in Arizona at the National Junior Disability Championships. He performed so well that he has been selected to represent the USA on the WASUSA team going to Puerto Rico THIS AUGUST for the International Wheelchair and Amputee Junior World Championships!!! We are asking for all the support we can get! Stephen’s trip costs $4,000 and I am looking for those who would like to make a donation! This past summer our parents lost their home in Hurricane Sandy so we are really reaching out to our friends and family for help.
