In 2019, a sample-based survey showed a census of 12% or slightly more of persons with disability in Pakistan [Source: Dawn]. But it's unfortunate that there is no credible data available on rural/urban and gender segmentation. The women in that segment are already in a wretched state. In a population of 220 million about 26 million Pakistanis are permanently disabled. With poverty rate hovering around 55%, most people disabled persons are unable to afford this very basic right to help them move.
Being a responsible foundation, we have pledged to donate 25,000 wheelchairs on 25th anniversary of the Human Development Foundation, which is year 2022, to the people who are most in need. In a quest to help the handicapped community, Mr. Niaz Malik - Former Deputy CEO, ZONG Telecom, joined hands with Human Development Foundation for Wheelchair of Hope. Niaz Malik, once a very active corporate leader is now bound to wheelchair, after an accident. Wheelchair of Hope is an initiative by HDF for the disadvantaged communities to provide wheelchairs to the differently-abled individuals to enable them to realise their full potential and fulfil their dreams, despite their limitations. This will not only provide them with mobility, but also empower equal opportunity, which will benefit the society as a whole. These wheelchairs will not just enable 25,000 individuals but also restore smiles of their family. Join our hands to secure a better future for these disadvantaged individuals in $135 only and help people help themselves.
