Update #2

Ran 7miles today and I'll be honest it was tough in 80% humidity! I think that my race day pace, weather permitting, will be closer to 11m per mile...I'll take it considering I have no formal training and legit went from 0 running to a half-marathon!! Thanks again for your support, I can't believe I'm doing this!!

More Info

Hi y’all! Thanks for checking out this page and supporting me in my effort to run a half-marathon...on my own...all alone...on a impromptu Google maps designed route around Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston. Weather permitting, it'll happen in the early morning hours of Sunday July 12th. To be clear, I have 0 athletic training, have never worked with a running coach, and have no history of long-distance running. I started running outdoors when gyms closed down in March, and because I'm a weirdo and everything has to have meaning I decided to work toward a half-marathon. Yay! As I tell myself on my long runs, "I can do this...I can do this...I can do this..." As the weeks inched closer to hitting 13.1, I realized it was a great opportunity to support an important local cause. So, I'm running on the hopes that I'll raise funds and awareness for a great local Black-owned wellness business.

"You Good, Sis?" is a Boston based business that “is a collective for black and brown women and femmes looking for a mental, spiritual and physical check in. [They] strive to define and create a specific space dedicated to the wellbeing of women of color” (per their website). One of the founders, Rach Junard, was a pod interviewee in May 2019 in an episode that was never released (alongside 8 other interviews...because sometimes life overwhelmingly happens), and I found them to be incredibly kind, smart, and doing the work to make the wellness world more accessible. Right now it is imperative that we dismantle whiteness in wellness; I continue to learn ways that I can do my part and learn how to make this field more accessible and inclusive, such as seeking out Black meditation and yoga teachers online, seeking out informative webinars, reading, etc. There is much to be done.

I know you might be donating a lot now to support important causes you believe in, and I'm grateful for whatever you can contribute. 100% of what's raised will go directly to "You Good Sis". Thank you for your generosity, your time, and your donation. It is greatly appreciated and will certainly go to incredibly good use!

Wash your hands, wear a mask, stay 6ft away from folx, support small businesses, and educate yourself on how to be an antiracist today.

PS: The photo above is from when I first started running, and when I first ran 6 miles. Now I have actual running sneakers and a CamelBak so I'm like, a real runnah now.
