I would like to introduce the SHARE organization. SHARE is a 501c3 registered charity that provides food and groceries to families and individuals in our community that are struggling financially to put food on their tables. The objective of the SHARE charity is to help overcome the hunger which is rampant in our community.
Working and non-working families and individuals face many different situations that lead them to financial insecurity and hunger The USDA reports that 38 million families in the United States are struggling with food security.
Our donations come from monthly cash donors as well as product donations from individuals who are interested in helping our charity. We are currently actively submitting grant requests to help us further our cause of fighting hunger.
Over the last year SHARE has helped almost 200 individuals in more than 65 homes by delivering life sustaining food and groceries to their door. In 2010 we delivered to 11 towns including Norwich, Preston, Groton, Taftville, New London, Waterford, Bozrah, Baltic, Willimantic, Jewett City and Lisbon. We have seen measurable success and now are seeking to expand our charity even more so that we can reach even more families this year than we did last year. We are hoping to double the number of families and individuals that we can help this year. We are off to a good start but need funding to help reach our goals.
Our mission and vision are to find and help those in our community, primarily focused on New London County, but we have gone beyond, who are struggling financially to put food on their tables for themselves and their families.
Each family receives 7 to 10 bags of meats, vegetables, rice, pastas, and other healthy foods as well as nonfood items such as toilet tissue, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and laundry detergent
The gratitude displayed by the recipients of SHARE deliveries drives us to do what we do.
