Recreational Therapy Programs for Wounded Veterans

Recreational Therapy Programs for Wounded Veterans

From David Murcio

We are raising money to ensure veterans continue to have recreational programs available to prevent the increase in veteran suicides, depression or aggravated PTSD symptoms brought upon the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to overcoming many new challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our veteran community has been dealing with its own epidemic that takes the lives of over 22 veterans per day! Due to suicide as a result of PTSD, depression and many other injuries while serving our nation. For years veterans are told NOT to self isolate and are given many options of social programs and events to join in hopes of combating the dreadful suicide rate. Now due to new social restrictions, many outlets that our veterans have used to stay afloat has been removed, while many organizations that provide free recreational support & programs to our vets and first responders such as Warriors Beyond War are left scrambling to adjust to the new virtual method of providing programs while they have had planned fundraising events & opportunities cancelled due to the stay at home restrictions.

As CEO of Warriors Beyond War a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, it is my mission to continue to adapt to the new social changes and find creative methods to continue serving our veteran & first responder community. Our programs have included dance instruction and social activities, programs and classes as a form of recreational therapy and since the stay home restrictions, have provided weekly virtual cooking classes and workout classes. We are soon to begin a new phase of programs to help enrich the lives of our veterans & first responders.
