I am reaching out to you about a very important event that is happening this upcoming summer that means so much to my teammates and I. I am given the opportunity to join my teammates to compete in the World Deaf Basketball Championships in Lublin, Poland June 23- July 7. Considering this opportunity, this will be my fourth appearance with Team USA. I have won three gold medals in all past appearances, 2012 Pan American Games in Washington, D.C., 2013 Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria, and 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championship Games in Taoyuan, Taiwan. USA Deaf Basketball International is a non-profit 501(c)(3) and 509 (a)(2) organization.
It is such an honor to represent Team USA at the World Deaf Basketball Championships Games in Lublin, Poland. I have been playing basketball at a very young age and I have always watched my brother who was a star player back in the 90s. Unfortunately, I lost my brother in a house fire in 2007. That did not stop me from playing basketball, however, every game I play I dedicate the game to him. I am the person I am today because of basketball, all the tools I have learned from each coach and my brother, which has made me a great player on the court. I understand and live for the game of basketball. It is not just about basketball, but it’s about the influence to others. I believe in sharing my experience for those future athletes. Because of my hard work, I am determined to continue to be a great role model to those young athletes.
Being selected for the USA World Deaf Basketball Championship Team is an honor and major achievement for my fellow teammates and myself. The biggest challenge I face is not the competition itself, but the ability to secure funding to represent the USA at the World Deaf Basketball Championships. This presents a twofold challenge for Team USA athletes: fundraising and training for the World Deaf Championships. I do not receive any financial support so I am reaching out to you for your support in donating to help me represent Team USA, my family, friends, and my community.
People like you, who support the mission of the USA Deaf Basketball and its athletes, are the ones that can make it possible for me to accomplish in representing Team USA at Lublin, Poland. USA Basketball and Nike provide the teams with uniforms, apparel, shoes, and bags. Beyond this, each athlete must fundraise at least $3,500-$4,000 to cover all cost of airfare, training camp, room and board, and ground transportation.
Thank you for your support!
