From the mere age of 5, my little brother Michael knew he wanted to play footbal. My mom (as a single parent) struggled to make sure he played every year in the county Jr leagues, and somehow she made it to every practice and all his games over the years. Michael grew in size, knowledge and spiritually of course. As mom has always kept us in church, Michael gave his life to Christ as a young teenager and was baptised at Resurrection Baptist Baptist church by the time he arrived in high school. He serves in the Youth Choir as well as the Jr Usher Board. He recently kept his dreams of playing college football and going pro alive during his 4 years at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring MD. His dominate approach as a defenseive player during his senior year caught the attention of many. But after Sherwood getting knocked out of the playoffs 1 game before the finals, H S football came to a end. As Michael approached the last semester of high school, the chance of playing college ball had appeared to be slipping away. (though the devil tried to throw him off track) Michael NEVER became discouraged or distracted, and never gave up as he continued to pursue his football dreams, writing, visiting, and studying different football organizations. He prayed and let go and let God! Then to God be the Glory.......A few weeks ago, he received an acceptance letter to Jireh Preparatory Academy, located in Matthews, NC.
Now to all of you that KNOW us, (the Matthews Family) you probably are saying, "Matthews??", well not only is the Academy in Matthews, NC, but the name of the street that it is located on is Matthews Mint Hill Road. Now I dont know about you, but it all seems Heaven Sent to me..there is no other place we'd rather him go!!!..IJS.
