This is a fundraiser to cover the travel costs of sending local farmer Maya Dailey to San Severino Marche with ASU students to work with small-scale organic farmers in Italy.
Slow Food Phoenix is sponsoring this fundraiser as a professional development opportunity for a passionate, local farmer committed to sustainable farming, education, and the Slow Food values of good, clean, and fair food.
Help us send Maya Dailey to an organic farm in San Severino Marche with local Italian farmers and ASU students on a farming-centered study abroad trip this summer. Maya's Farm provides organic, local food to many Phoenix area residents, restaurants and farmer's markets, as well as hands-on educational opportunities for students of all ages.
ASU students are currently working on Maya's Farm learning everything from crop production to selling produce at the Phoenix Public Market before heading to Italy to study on a small-scale, organic Italian farm in the summer. Students will be working on comparative projects to look at the similarities and differences in the local farmer networks, food policies, and cultural values between Maricopa County and the Le Marche region.
We want to send Maya to continue working with and mentoring these students while expanding her global farm network and helping to reconnect ASU students to Arizona food, land, and culture through a shared, immersive experience.
Any funds raised above the $2,500 goal will go to a student scholarship fund and/or to organize a student trip to Bra, Italy -- the headquarters of Slow Food International.
