Raising money to help fulfill my sister's wish to remain with her beloved animals while battling cancer - about to lose their home of 13 years with their 30 plus cows, 14 horses, a dog, and more than 20 cats.
Much like many other situations you see on fundraising sites, this is a brief story of unexpected struggles and challenges – ones we all hope to never have to face. My sister, Steph, and her partner, Mike, have recently learned the place they have called home for the past 13 years has been sold and the new owner has decided to not only not allow them to stay but will begin an eviction process as soon as the property closes to clear the land for development.
To add to her situation, Steph has been battling cancer for the past 7 years. Yet, she continues to spend her time taking care of others. She has devoted much of her life to caring for animals and stray animals. Her farm has not only been her home for the past 13 years but home to 30 plus head of cattle, 14 horses, a dog and more than 20 cats (all dumped or left at her farm). However, she continues to vet, love, and care for them as her own.
Their income comes from boarding horses which is what they use to care for the animals as well as themselves. The boarders are also concerned as their animals’ home and caretaker are also in jeopardy. Mike also has seasonal work through deliveries of mulch and stone. But, if they are not able to come up with the unexpected financial means for a down payment on another property, they and their animals will soon be homeless.
Mike and Steph are always willing to help others in any way they can. Any assistance provided will be very appreciated by them and their animal family. Donations will be used to secure another farm and to help care for the animals during the transition.
