We are raising money for an organization called Save the Heartbeat. Save the Heartbeat is a nonprofit that funds research for early detection of CHD, congenital heart diease in infants.
My name is Elisha Becerra and my son was born March 20th 2017 and was diagnosed with CHD. After being born my son Rex was transferred to CHLA, children’s hospital Los Angeles, where he underwent heart surgery at just 7 days old. After a successful surgery he was placed on a machine called ECMO which helped pump the blood in and out of his heart because he was not yet able to do it on his own. While on ECMo Rex developed a blood clot in his brain and his organs started to shut down. We knew we had to make a decision. With my husband and I holding him in our arms the nurses shut down the ECMO machine and Rex went to be with the angels at just 14 days old.
1 in 100 babies across the world are born with some form of CHD and 100,000 of them won’t make it to their first birthday. My son, Rex Michael Becerra, is one of them. Having early detection could have saved Rex’s life and it will help save other infants lives in the future. Your donation to Save the Heartbeat will help fund early detection programs at hospitals like CHLA. Please help save our children ❤️
