Our dear friends Raja & Mohammad Hamdi are desperately trying to raise funds to help Raja's family who are trapped in Syria along the Turkish border. Together we can help give them a chance at a better life!
Dear Friends & Family,
Just over four years ago Alex and I rented an apartment in Fredericton to a Syrian family who were fleeing the war and had just arrived in Canada. On the day they moved in we decided to greet them with a little homecoming gift to help ease their transition. Using google translate and a hot pot of Syrian tea we formed an instant bond. Mohammad & Raja, and their four delightful children, Nada, Omar, Anis & Liza (named after me!!) have become our close friends and an inspiration for living joyfully in the face of tragedy. They have embraced their new lives in Canada, learning English in leaps and bounds, sharing their foods and traditions with their new Canadian friends and enriching our community in so many ways.
Sadly, the joy of their new lives in Canada is always overshadowed by the suffering that both of their families still endure in Syria, Lebanon and Turkey. Raja's family at the moment are in a deep crisis, having left a dangerous and overcrowded camp in Syria and now forced to live an untenable existence in an abandoned olive grove close to the Turkish border.
They have no funds to pay the bribes that are necessary to cross the border, no food, no shelter and no hope to change their situation. Raja & Mohammad asked if Alex and I could help them by raising some money to send to their family and we felt compelled to help them.
At this time, every donation big or small will offer Raja's family some glimmer of hope to change their future.
We appreciate all of your support so much.
Yours for change,
Lisa & Alex (Raja & Mohammad)
