My aunt Maria is 70. She lives in Ukraine. Cancer took her husband young, at the age of 40. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, she was not able to have children. As such, she was left alone at her old age. My husband and I supported her financially so she can buy coal and wood for heating her house in the winter. Her pension is $50 a month, and she needs about $300 each winter just to heat her home. Her house is in poor shape and this year it was declared to be not fit for living. The house needs a roof repaired, a new wood stove, and walls and floor insulation. She currently must wear a coat in the house and sleep in it under a blanket as it gets freezing inside. She cannot afford to make repairs to the house as her pension is barely enough to survive in Ukraine. There is no social assistance available to her, so she must continue living in these poor conditions. It is very dangerous to live in the house, but she must live in it because of hopelessness. The house requires significant renovations to get it back to a liveable state and there is a high possibility that it needs to be rebuilt since the condition of the house is very neglected and quickly deteriorates. My husband and I raised some money to help her, but unfortunately, it is not nearly enough to cover all repairs. We are asking not indifferent people to help my aunt to live out her old age in a warm and safe house. Please know, every donation, even the smallest amount, will make a difference. Please accept our gratitude in advance for all your support.
