Let’s help the small businesses who’ve been hit hard by the pandemic! The first is Hutkay Fusion, a well-known restaurant beloved by the community. Since the pandemic started, Hutkay has given away over 9,200 free meals.
Ebony Iris is a marketing and creative agency who wants to help the small businesses in the community get back on their feet at no cost to them and also, to pandemic-proof their business. We love Ann Arbor & the small businesses here! That’s why we have started this project to encourage the community to give back to these loyal and hardworking companies in their time of need.
We spoke with the mayor about our plan to help the community and will meet soon with the main street association & hope to work collectively with them to assemble lists of other companies who are stumbling and could use help thriving in these challenging times. We witnessed many businesses close, many of whom we didn't even know were considering closing, and now want to reach out to those who are feeling that same pressure to close soon and give them hope. Let's show them love from our awesome Ann Arbor community!
Swaroop, one of the owners of Hutkay Fusion, has a doctorate in Microbiology Immunology and a heart to help improve people's health by serving healthy food. Hutkay has helped the community in so many ways. Swaroop has raised funds for many organizations in the past by donating a percentage of his proceeds to organizations such as Ann Arbor Public Schools, Cobblestone Farm Market, Forestbrooke Pool, and many others. He has also provided free weekly meals for those in need during the pandemic to the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County Delonis Center, the SafeHouse Center, the Interfaith Hospitality Network at Alpha House, Avalon Housing Carrot Way Low Income Housing Residents and the Salvation Army Staples Family Center Shelter. In addition to this, since the pandemic started, Swaroop invites anyone who is in need to restaurant (Tuesday-Saturday) for a free meal. He plans to continue this as long as the restaurant remains open.
Now, it's our turn to help his business by raising the necessary funds to keep the restaurant going during these unprecedented times. He was considering closing because his father is ill and he needs to go be with him soon for an extended amount of time in India. We are trying to convince him not to close. Please help Ebony Iris raise money to help this business survive. Soon, we will be adding a link where you can purchase Hutkay recipes, Chocolicious Hazelnut Chocolate Spread (with no added sugars or oils), Fortified Herbal Tea, t-shirts etc...
For now, please consider donating to help this amazingly generous, healthy and delicious restaurant survive in this difficult time. There will be more local businesses featured soon. If you know of any local businesses who need help, please refer them to us. Thank you!
