Update #13

Hi Everyone,

The uphill battle continues as Afghanistan is now hit by an earthquake that has caused more than 1000 deaths so far. We sent our team to Gardez hospital where some of the survivors were taken and offered them prepared meals. Our team will go to Gaiyan which is the remote area which has been affected the most and figures out what we can do there today. Just wanted to update all of you, will post more as soon as we know more.

More Info

The fall of Kabul on August 15 has exacerbated 40+ years of war for the people of Afghanistan. The ensuing collapse of the Afghan economy has further compounded threats such as food insecurity and chronic poverty for ordinary Afghans. We are in a race against time as the crashing economy and backbreaking sanctions are making it more difficult to distribute basic food essentials, which will intensify the famine, which is already crippling millions of Afghans’ lives. I lean on your support during this fragile time to provide IMMEDIATE sustenance for the Afghan people.

So far we have given out monthly rations to thousands of families, run successful freshly baked bread campaigns for 225 families during the winter, given out +400 meals everyday of Ramazan among other work that we have been doing.

Background

I am a lecturer at the American University in Afghanistan (AUAF), and I am raising funds to provide humanitarian support for Afghans suffering from food insecurity. I have assembled a team of honest and hardworking Afghans and through our extensive networks across the region, we have implemented a robust operation to handle the planning, logistics, and procurement of resources to provide basic food essentials to vulnerable Afghans. In the absence of a functioning government in Afghanistan, and the lack of NGOs currently operating in the country, my team and I are dedicated to staying the course in Afghanistan to aid our people.

Update #12

Hi Everyone,

Hope you're all doing well and are safe with your families. We have had another bloody month of Ramadhan in Afghanistan with another blast today that targetted worshippers at a mosque.

The little positive news is that we will have monthly packages we have prepared for 200 families to take home to their families for Eid delivered tomorrow. We will keep them overnight and have everyone come to pick them up a day before Eid. We are hoping this makes their Eid a little happier and free of worry regarding food.

The packages are worth $50 dollars each so this is one of our biggest drives yet. We put special attention into the families we chose, a large some of them were referred to us by those who knew them to be suffering. Lets hope this comes back to all of you in ways you never imagined.

Best,
Obaidullah

Update #11

Hi Everyone,

We started our meal distribution yesterday and distributed 400 prepared meals to a100 families at the district 11 of Kabul. We will be targeting a different district every day. We are providing 4 meals per family so that the women and children have a decent meal to eat this Ramzan. Thank you all for your help. Families went to sleep with a full belly because of your efforts yesterday.

Please note that I've directed the team to make sure those receiving the meals are seated or lined on one side in the future to ensure a more dignified distribution.

Update #10

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your very kind donations. We successfully wrapped up our promised help of bread to 205 families in Kabul over the winter. This Ramadhan as families in Kabul observe the holy month and fast, we will be providing prepared meals for them to take home. We will be preparing up to 400 meals a day and hope to give every family 3-4 packs to take home. That way we make sure the women and children get to eat the meals as well. Our packages will include (Qaboli rice, chicken piece, dates, and a piece of bread). I will be sharing pictures with you as soon as we get the funds to Kabul and start.

Update #9

Hi Everyone,

As you might already be aware, we have started distributing baked bread across Kabul. We cater to 75 families across 7 districts of Kabul. The districts include:
(PD 9 Yaka Toot, PD 22 Kocha Shamshad, PD 12 Shina, PD 16 Qila Zaman Khan, PD 17 Shahrak Safa, PD 6 Qalai Bakhtiar, PD 5 Khushal Khan). We have shortlisted the neediest families in these districts and will expand with time Every family will receive 10 pieces of bread once a day. The bread costs 9 AFN so it will cost us $64 to feed 75 families every day. We are going to expand this to 200 families a day starting next week. Just wanted to say a thank you to all of you. Please watch the video below and share it in your circles.

Update #8

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry I tend to not send you updates here too often, I also understand people get annoyed by too many emails. I hope you get to see most of the work we do on twitter.

We have done four or five different drives since we posted here last. Today we had 32 families from all across Afghanistan collecting the food aid we could provide them. This was all possible due to your help.

Video for today and pictures attached:

Sending you prayers,
Obaidullah

Update #5

This is Ruqia, an eleven year old child from Mazar Sharif. Her malnutrition has brought down her weight to 13kgs. We reached out to her family and provided them with funds. This is the work you're enabling us to do.

Update #2

Transparency demands we tell you about our process as well. Remember that this is an individual initiative and has no organisation or govern;ent body behind it. We prefer to buy all our goods locally. The transportation cost of goods purchased from a neighboring country does not justify the overall cost of the purchase. Purchasing locally helps the economy. We have been sharing the most recent pricelists with you on this page. Prices are changing daily as is the rate of a dollar in Afghanistan. We will keep purchasing from local vendors until the price is justified.

Also good news is we will be doing a smaller drive in the next two days. I'll try to talk to the younger kids there to give you an idea of the difference you're making.

Update #1

Thank you all for every bit of help so far! We will be conducted a small drive in the next few days with the money we had collected before this call! One thing we have added to our package is dry milk. According to the UN, more than half of all under-fives are suffering from extreme malnutrition, and more than one-third of citizens are not getting enough to eat. Please spread this campaign among your friends who want to help Afghanistan but don't know how.
