In 2011, I successfully completed the NYC Marathon. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I decided to challenge myself to the race again this year, on November 2, 2014. As a second time marathoner, I have chosen to make my race even more meaningful and try to raise awareness and support for the organization, Sandy Hook Promise. Moving back to the community this year has been the best choice my husband and I have made. The community is entirely welcoming and its strength has been empowering. I would love to give back any way that I can.
The Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) and was created as a result of the 12/14/12 school shooting tragedy, as a promise to parent together to prevent gun violence in our communities. SHP is set up into two different non-profit organizations SHP Foundation and SHP Action Fund.
The SHP Foundation has a mission to prevent the causes of gun violence by educating and empowering parents in their communities. Focused in the areas of mental wellness, community connectedness and gun safety, programs are created to implement in communities today as well as support for policy actions at state and federal levels.
The SHP Action Fund has a mission to provide immediate and long-term financial, in-kind, and other aid, on request, to families that lost loved ones, those wounded and others in the community impacted by the tragedy.
I will be donating 100% of the funds raised to support this great cause and hope to raise awareness for its mission.
