My name is Brad Lord and I am a physical education teacher from Macon, Georgia. My goal is to use the Chicago Marathon as a platform to inspire and motivate students while at the same time raise money for the Beverly Knight Olson's Children Hospital in Macon, Ga. By reaching my minimum goal of $2000, I will be able to donate at least $500 to the children's hospital, but of course I want to use this opportunity to raise as much as possible and give back to the community.
What I love the the most about running is that I have the power to control the next step I take and I want to inspire people that they have the same power to push beyond their limits.
In the past couple years, I set the goal to run a marathon and began the year (2018),with (little training) a half marathon. After running it, I was hooked and started running more consistently pushing my own boundaries and limits along the way. The lessons I learned for my own self improvement are invaluable. The discipline gained during my training this year have taught me the importance of accountability, persistence, and mental fortitude.
After many 5k and 10k road races throughout the year, I finally reached the marathon in December of 2018. In cold wet conditions my running partner and I completed the 26.2 miles... A few days later I found out that my application was chosen to run in the 2019 Chicago Marathon! I can not begin to express how excited I am to have this opportunity and with your support my dream can become a reality. Help me reach the starting line of the 2019 Chicago Marathon!!
