At first it was just a program. A simple summer camp program to try to help the children of foster care, ages 6-12, in Orange County, California. But soon the idea grew. Fast. So fast that it was difficult to keep up with. And yet, it needed to grow faster to meet the massive need of helping a half a million children stranded in homes that are not their own.
Now, with over 9,000 adult volunteers every year, it is a movement. Finally, people have actually met the children. They have seen their scars and heard their stories. Little heroes who have survived impossible odds.
The children of abuse that we serve have permanently changed us (and we thought we were changing them).
We want to see every foster child experience a life changing camp, club and mentor. We want every child to receive our attention, affirmation and love. They deserve it because of their innocence. They did not choose to be born to abusers. Parents who beat them with two-by-fours, burn them with cigarettes and whip them with electrical cords. We must convince them that not EVERY adult is bad.
We are sowing the seeds of change to yield a crop of goodness much later in their lives.
