Rocco’s Surgery

Rocco’s Surgery

From Cheri Graf

Rocco was rescued from a 4 ft deep cement hole. He was born with a condition that will require back leg amputation. We found each other when we both needed it most. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Rocco is living his best life, we both thank all of you so much for your generosity and kindness. He is just so darn cute, and even though he wants to run across our faces in the middle of the night and climb under the covers and bite our feet, we sure do love him.

More Info

My salon had been closed down due to covid and on May 26 I was doing last minute cleaning and prepping in anticipation of opening. I heard a faint but constant meow and determined it was coming from under my floor so I pulled up the crawl space door and went into the belly crawl space (in shorts and a tank top) toward the desperate meows.  I had no idea that cement 4-5 foot hole even existed under there. I jumped in without thinking when I saw the tiny kitten. He was completely freaked out and would not let me touch him, so I had to bag him to get him outta there. Luckily I had brought a laundry bag that I had used for my knees to crawl on. I got out of there as fast as I could and drove around trying to take him to a local vet to get checked out. With Covid restrictions no one could see me without an appointment so I took him home, put him in a cat crate to let him calm down. I brought him back down to the shop where I was meeting a friend, he was the first one to pick him up and that's when we saw his poor little leg.  The next day at a vet visit they determined that he was perfectly fine and would not need anything done to his leg. I was so relieved because by now I am so in love with this little guy and he had finally become pretty attached to me as well. I was not in a financial position to take on future medical expenses being closed down for so long. Well. 2 weeks later, at his next vet visit it was determined that he is having trouble and that would need full amputation to live pain free and not have any further troubles that this deformed little leg would cause him. He is just the sweetest little guy and has claimed me as his mama, and everyone who meets him just loves him.  He has quite the tough guy personality, with a super sweet side. He will never be without, he will have anything he needs, and will be showered with love. Asking for help is very difficult for me but so many wonderful family, friends and clients have convinced me this is the way to go.  So Rocco and I appreciate any help we can receive towards his surgery. ..I'm so thankful I heard him and was there that day. It was definitely fate.

Update #1

Oh My goodness thank you all so much! Good news, we have a little bit of time. I thought we had to hurry to get this done, he is about 10 weeks old now, and Rocco's Dr says we should wait til he is about 6-8 months. We will see what happens. If he starts having trouble with his "nub" getting raw or infected or if he bites at it then we will re-evaluate at that time. He will probably go on a medication for the nerve, which will help it not bother him. I appreciate all of your amazing generosity, I have set up a separate account and every dime will be saved until then for Rocco's surgery when it does happen. Now I wish I would have waited, but now I can relax, prepare and enjoy this little guy, he truly brings me so much happiness.
