Update #11

WE DID IT! YOU DID IT! The ROAD TO RESCUE Campaign not only MET but EXCEEDED the $66,000 goal with a total of almost $89,000!

A very generous donor came in clutch with a large donation and, oh boy, we need it! With rising vehicle and gas prices, we did not think our initial goal would be enough. But now we have enough to purchase the van, set it up for transports, AND have a nest egg for fuel costs!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who made this campaign a success! Every time we ask you to help us save lives, you step up and are there for the abandoned and neglected animals of Habersham County!

We will be sure to keep you posted on developments with the van but, again, our most biggest love to YOU for making this happen!

More Info

Habersham County Animal Shelter (HCAS) is seeking to raise the monies to purchase a transport van, as well as finance the needed modifications, the fuel, and the driver fees for 12 months (the first year). A successful campaign would mean the ability to achieve the following goals:

  • Purchase a new Ford Transit High Top Extended Length van with the capacity to transport a minimum of 20 animals up to a maximum of 40 animals (a combination of up to 20 dogs and/or 40 cats per trip). Through Habersham County municipal resources, HCAS has the ability to purchase a low-mileage, new van at dealer cost, which they can retrofit for transport.
  • Retrofit/modify the van as needed for the safety and comfortable transport of the animals.
  • Pay for fuel for a minimum of 12 transports.
  • Pay fees to retain a driver for a minimum of 12 transports.

HCAS has had great success saving the lives of rescues through transporting animals out of the South to other states where there is a demand for companion animals.

Since they started transports in 2019, HCAS has been able to place 1,000+ animals in loving homes throughout the Eastern U.S. including New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Unfortunately, HCAS’s ability to transport animals and save lives is often hindered by their ability to secure space on other planned transports or to finance their own transports. To that end, HCAS would like to purchase their own vehicle to use in transporting rescues to safety and a new life.

Update #10

Friends, we let the ball drop on the Road to Rescue campaign and now we are under the gun. Why? Because in the last few weeks, HCAS has taken in MORE THAN 200 animals. To say we've been overwhelmed is an understatement.

But that is also exactly why we desperately need this transport van! Will you please SHARE the campaign with your family and friends today? All monies are still being matched up to $10,000.

THANK YOU to everyone who has given and please help us spread the word so we can reach the $66,000 goal by next Friday!

Update #7

Friends, please join HCAS in thanking Habersham Humane Society, Inc for donating $3,000 to the Road to Rescue campaign to help make our transport van dream come true!

HCAS has been overwhelmed this week with the generosity of our rescue friends and community members who continue to donate to the Road to Rescue campaign. Our $65K goal, which seemed almost impossible, is now within sight. Currently, we are nearing $40,000 raised and we still have 3 weeks to bring this dream home!

Again, THANK YOU to everyone who has stepped up with your big, compassionate hearts and joined HCAS on this life-saving mission! You're pawesome!

Update #6

Please join HCAS in giving a HIGH PAW and HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our rescue friends at All Paws on Deck! They hosted a Facebook fundraiser for the Road to Rescue campaign and raised $3,000 toward the goal!

All Paws is one of the organizations HCAS works with on a regular basis to transport animals in need and their team finds the rescues loving homes. We are so grateful to have such pawesome partners in life-saving!

With their generous donation, we are now at $36,463 and counting toward the campaign goal, or more than 55% raised to date!

Update #3

FRIENDS, we have HUGE NEWS! Last night we came to you with a sad update, but this one is incredibly happy!

After our post last night, we received confirmation that a generous donor with a huge heart for animals will be MATCHING ALL DONATIONS to the Road to Rescue campaign UP TO $10,000!

That means, starting now, every gift will be DOUBLED, DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR, when anyone makes a donation at https://fundly.com/road-to-rescue

Because we are just now receiving this wonderful gift, we have decided to extend the campaign through June 3 to give ample time to meet the match. Please help us spread the word about the match and ask your friends and family to donate!

HCAS is so incredibly grateful to this supporter for their generosity and so thankful for EACH ADN EVERY ONE OF YOU who have given to the Road to Rescue campaign so far! We couldn't save lives without YOU!

NOTE: Donations made via check also will count toward the match. If you prefer to give via check, please note it is for the Road to Rescue campaign and mail to: Habersham County Animal Shelter, 4231-B Toccoa Highway, Clarkesville, GA, 30523. Please note on the check it is for Road to Rescue. THANK YOU!

Update #2

Friends, we hate to bring you sad news, but Team HCAS was hoping to post another multi-shelter freedom ride today, and a rerun this Friday, but our vehicle source ran dry this week so both transports were canceled.

Two trips. Tuesday and Friday. Canceled. And 100+ rescues are now without a ride to a loving new home.

Spring is an incredibly busy time for all shelters. Cats and large dogs come in faster than we can process paperwork. Owner surrenders are through the roof. But HCAS has NEVER closed our doors to our citizens or animals.

But transports save animals that would otherwise be euthanized. Transports move animals to safety to make room for more.

That's why we are so INCREDIBLY THANKFUL for your support! Every gift gets us a little closer to making sure we never have to cancel a transport. We never have to say no to saving a life. THANK YOU for that gift!

Update #1

431 DAYS. That's how long Donivan was "in the system" at HCACC.

But transport provided him a final lifeline: His very own forever family in Connecticut!

Abandoned. Adopted. Returned. Again. And again. But we wouldn't give up on Donivan. We couldn't. We knew he was a goob boy. He just needed to find his people.

Last week, Donivan got his golden ticket on a transport north where he's living the life with his family and his new BFF dog sibling.

Thank you for donating to the Road to Rescue Campaign and being a lifesaving lifeline for animals in Habersham who have no one else. Your donation means other animals like Donivan will have a chance to be loved. A chance for a family. A chance for a new life that every animal deserves.
