Rhizome’s experiment in building a creative and connected community needs your support now. We've had an amazing first year. Since Rhizome first opened its doors in the spring of 2016, this old house on Maple Street has hosted over 200 separate programs of art and music, workshops and community events, spanning a dizzying variety of subjects. We’ve been fortunate to host amazingly talented artists and performers from all over the country and all over the world. Most importantly, an incredible community of creative, generous and open-minded people have come together here and, collectively, we are building something special.
As many of you already know, Rhizome is a DIY space, which basically means we have no outside funding and no commercial aspects to speak of. It's an all-volunteer affair, a true labor of love. Most events are funded by audience and participant donations, and most of that money goes to the artists, performers and educators so they can continue creating their work. What little amount Rhizome keeps (usually $50 or less per event) goes towards rent, utitlities and insurance - the bare minimum to operate the space. Unfortunately, it's not enough to keep it all going and also make some required improvements to the building (including soundproofing). To be able to continue paying our rent into next year, we need to raise $15,000 - so we are asking you to donate to our fundraiser. Your gift, in any amount, will make a real difference in our efforts to provide a home for creative culture in Takoma Park and the DC area.
Let’s not let this experiment end. Please donate whatever you can.
Thank you for your support!
