Update #6

Thank you, supporters! We couldn't have gotten this far without you!!

As our crowdfunding campaign wraps up, we'll still keep this page live as we continue to work for another $2000 of donations throughout June. The goal is to purchase a new vehicle sometime this summer and we are already scoping out suitable used vehicles.

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY:
TONIGHT at 6:30 PM at Deb's Brewtopia in Elkader we have a benefit concert featuring music duo Eggen & Hippen, with openers: the Green Iowa AmeriCorps team. Your $25 ticket will go toward the van and include your first beer! Learn more at claytoncounty.energydistrict.org.

We can't say it enough: thank you so much for supporting our work throughout northeast Iowa by contributing to this campaign! We'll be in touch in the coming weeks with your various giving level perks.

With Gratitude,

The Winneshiek Energy District and Green Iowa AmeriCorps team

Replace Our Ride

We are the Green Iowa AmeriCorps team, based out of the Winneshiek Energy District in Decorah, IA.  We are raising money to replace our aging van, a vehicle that transports us all over Iowa to do home energy audits and environmental outreach and education.

We serve six counties in northeast Iowa. Our services are FREE to the disabled, folks 65+, veterans, and low-moderate income clients*. (*sometimes we charge small travel fee). We’re fast, we’re efficient, and we do it all with a smile.

We drive around in our old van, Bertha.

Bertha’s a 2002 Ford Windstar with over 168,000 miles on her.  She’s not a complainer, but she does have some ailments:

  • The left rear door won’t open

  • The back windshield wiper is frozen

  • In and out of the shop five times last year!

  • Faulty heating system

  • Faulty emergency brake

  • Faulty clock

  • 3 lights are always lit up on the dash (clearly this is the least of our problems!)

Bertha has hauled us (and former teams) all over northeast Iowa so we could help folks. While we don’t want to put Bertha out to pasture, we do need a vehicle that won’t break down while we’re miles away driving down a desolate dirt road…

So we’re raising money to buy a reliable vehicle.

We’d like all-wheel-drive for when we are driving on icy roads in the winter, and fuel efficiency. A little younger than 17 years old (no offense Bertha…).

Your generous contribution to the Bertha 2.0 fund will help us serve northeast Iowans for years to come.

We’re ready to thank you and to pay your kindness forward to those who need it most!

Can you help by sharing this campaign with your friends and neighbors?

Update #5

WOWZA! THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our Fundly campaign - we've raised over $5,500 so far!

And there are still three days left.

Whether or not we meet our "stretch goal" of $9,000, we have certainly raised enough to replace the failing Green Iowa AmeriCorps van (Whether or not we meet this goal, we'll still keep all the donations raised).

*That said* - - - > the last few days are crucial. At this point, funds raised will not determine *if* we can purchase a new vehicle, but *what quality* of vehicle we can purchase. Your end-of-campaign donation will help us get the most reliable, energy efficient vehicle possible. Another thousand dollars toward our goal will be the difference between getting a used vehicle with 150,000 miles on it versus 100,000 miles!

Make an end of campaign contribution by THIS FRIDAY. And thank you for supporting our energy efficiency work throughout northeast Iowa!

Update #4

WOW! Together we've raised over $5,300 to help the Green Iowa AmeriCorps team get a new van!

This is amazing and a huge THANK YOU goes out to the 50 donors who have gotten us this far. Just today two more donations came in - one from a local non-profit professional whose organization works regularly with the Green Iowa AmeriCorps team, and another donation from a recipient of the team's home energy efficiency services.

There's still 8 days left in the online crowdfunding campaign. Can you help us reach our fundraising goal of $9,000? Any amount helps!!

Update #3

We passed the $4,000 mark today!

Huge thanks go out to our 40 backers thus far who helped us get to this point and to Seed Savers Exchange for the donation that pushed us past this landmark! We partner regularly with this amazing local nonprofit and believe in the work that they do to promote plant diversity and gardening. Thanks for supporting our work!

We have 23 days left in the campaign and $5,000 to go! Can you help us get there by sharing the news of this campaign?
