Hello animal loving friends. I'm setting up this Fundly to support the construction of an animal shelter for the stray dogs that roam the small town of Purepero, Michoacan, Mexico.
For as long as I can remember, there has been one woman in my hometown of Purepero who has cared for the town's stray dogs right out of her own house. Our street became home to these dogs since that is where they were consistently fed. Just recently, she managed to get a plot of land from some local farmers and began work on a shelter for the animals to stay permanently. Many volunteers helped construct what you see in the video, which isn't much. For those of you concerned like I was, the dogs are tied up because the shelter has no walls and they did not want them back on the streets.
Unfortunately, Purepero has a serious problem in caring for its animals. They are rarely treated humanely and many are thrown to the streets once they are no longer wanted. As of now, this is the first and only shelter that exists in the surrounding area so its success is critical for these animals to live healthier and happier lives.
The funds from this campaign will be used to: maintain and provide food, medical care, and shelter for the animals. Right now the shelter is being constructed with materials that have been donated or purchased with donated funds. The dogs need individual kennels, a common play area so that they can socialize, and a roof to protect against weather. There is a local vet that has been providing them with care but vaccines can't always be donated and most of the dogs are unvaccinated. The dogs will also certainly need toys and treats.
US Dollars go a long way in small towns in Mexico so I decided to start this to see if we could provide additional help to these ladies in their efforts. Thanks for the help everyone.
(excuse the picture quality, all I could do was take screenshots of the video they sent us)
