Do you know how many Christian churches here in Utah meet all of the following criteria?

- fully open and affirming of the LGBTGQIA+ community, allowing full participation in church life (including marriage, leadership, & ordination)

- progressive, inclusive of all people regardless of gender, orientation, color, race, ethnicity, immigration status, age, disabilities...?

- offer a more contemporary/eclectic/modern service for those of us who just can't do all hymns all the time?

The answer is: zero.

We'd like to change that.

"Recovery"?

A new, diversely contemporary-ish worship service with some liturgical structure and traditions at its foundation, but stripped of man-made exclusivity and intersecting oppressive influences (kyriarchy) as much as possible, leaving God-given grace and mercy given for all souls.

A space and time for progressive Christian worship where every individual is affirmed as inherently valuable to God, and our call to love God and love one another is kept a focal point.

A worship service for deprogramming; for unfundamentalists; for those pushed aside by historical man-made structures; for women; for people of color; for the LGBTQIA+ community; for people with disabilities; for immigrants; for indigenous peoples / first Americans; for families of one and families of many; for children and youth, the elderly, the young-ish, and the middle-aged; for people who society puts last; for the unchurched, the dechurched, the lifelong Christians, the spiritual; for people with questions; for the oppressed, the recovering oppressor, and those who are both; for the love of all humankind.

Designed to affirm and allow the full participation of all people, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, race, national origin, immigration status, romantic orientation, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, mental ability, or station in life.

Our recovery.

The Recovery service is envisioned as a Sunday evening meal-and-worship format.

As currently planned, worship will be planned/coordinated/directed on an ongoing basis by a Worship Director / Minister / Pastor [WP], with a small worship planning team assisting. This person will also coordinate the primary worship band, along with other musicians/artists. Generally, congregational music [that is, music that we all sing] would be led by the WP and worship band. Other special music during the service would be presented by any other musicians. Overall, the music will tend to be more modern [more guitar than pipe organ], but with a wide variety of influences, styles, traditions, and languages, especially when it comes to special music.Sermons/homilies/preaching will be given by various "people who preach" on a rotating basis.

Easter 2019: 5pm, April 21

We are so happy to announce that the first Recovery service will take place on Easter Sunday! Celebrating the resurrection, Easter symbolizes new life, hope, and promise - which fits well with our service :)The Recovery Easter service will be held at Holladay United Church of Christ (Holladay UCC, HUCC) on the evening of Easter Sunday. Join us at 5:00pm for dinner & then a service in the sanctuary!

(So far, this ministry has been self-supported by a handful of people leading and volunteering in every way, each of whom is working some other sort of job to try and pay the bills. We'd love any support you can give to help make this a reality!)

Specific things we're raising funds for:

For Easter specifically, we're spending $ on things such as: flyers, marketing materials, social media ads, etc.; music licensing; dinner & meal supplies; children's ministry materials; audio/visual equipment; worship materials printing (bulletins, etc.); some compensation for preacher & other labor-intensive roles.

For the service in general, we're spending $ [or would like to have the $ to spend] on everything listed above, and other things such as: upgraded web presence (URLs, hosting, upgraded hosting to post HD audio & video, etc.); custom email addresses (a 'real' one instead of generic gmail); worship materials printing (bulletins, etc.); space rental; misc. worship supplies; useful gifts (stickers, reusable totes, etc.); banners; ............
