Now, more than ever, Maine needs a strong and tested voice in Congress. After the next election, the Second District will have a new voice in Washington for the first time in twelve years.
Kevin Raye already holds the record for winning both the highest percentage of any 2nd District GOP candidate in the past ten elections (48% in 2002) and the highest number of votes of any 2nd District candidate in the past ten elections (137,542) in 2012 -- both times against the better-known Mike Michaud.
This year -- with an open seat, Kevin is an even stronger and better-known candidate with a proven record and a solid base of support.
That's because, in the years since 2002, Kevin Raye has worked hard.
In addition to the experience he had as Chief of Staff to Sen. Olympia Snowe, he now has experience as a small family business owner providing jobs and a quality Maine product at Raye’s Mustard Mill in Eastport. And after four successful terms in the Maine Senate, he brings to the table his proven record of effective leadership and constructive problem solving.
In Augusta, Kevin won the confidence of his colleagues. In 2008, he was elected as the Senate Republican Leader and, two years later, he was unanimously elected to serve as the first President of the Senate to preside over a Republican majority since 1994.
As Senate President, Kevin led the Senate to passage of reforms including the largest tax cut in Maine history, $1.7 billion in debt reduction, and regulatory reform to encourage job creation. He has a proven record of leadership bringing people together to solve problems, stand up for working families, small businesses, veterans and seniors – and fighting for the best possible education for our children.
Mainers can be proud of what Kevin's leadership has already accomplished for Maine, and we can be proud of how he did it. As Senate President, Kevin Raye worked with Speaker Bob Nutting to instill a tone of civility, mutual respect and fairness that resulted in bipartisan support for passage of these major Republican priorities.
With your support, Kevin Raye can win this race – and take a dose of Maine common sense to Washington.
