The Films for the Forest challenge was first posed by environmental non-profit Rainforest Partnership on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, giving filmmakers one week to produce a short film based on the theme ‘The Tree and I.’ Rainforest Partnership received films submissions from four different countries, spanning several continents. All films were judged by Richard Linklater, Lisa McWilliams, Michel O. Scott, and Evan Smith. The screening event drew a substantial crowd and raised over $10,000. Fundraising efforts for Films for the Forest supported new projects in both Sani Isla, Ecuador and Pampa Hermosa, Peru. Now, in 2012, Films for the Forest will be held during the Community Screenings at the SXSW Film Festival, and RP is again calling for short film entries.
