Happy New Year!
Bob Larson and I,Tami Kerns, will be riding our bikes on one of the toughest bike races on earth. This is the "Race Across America" (or RAAM), and this race is over 3,000 miles. This is a race against a clock that doesn’t stop – through rainstorms, wind, sweltering heat, freezing cold, and any other obstacles that arise. RAAM is an international event with other endurance cyclists from around the world competing in this annual race. We expect this ride will take us 9 days as Bob and I tag-team from Oceanside, Ca to Annapolis, Maryland. One of us will be on a bike at any given time from start to finish – 24 hours a day over these 9 days.
Our goal is to raise money to help cover the cost of the race (race fees, fuel for the vehicles, meals, crew support and any other essential expenses). All donations not used for essential expenses will be donated to help find a cure for Alzheimer's. I saw, and experience first-hand the difficulties my mother went through just to accomplish simple tasks that we take for granted on a daily basis before her passing. The victim of Alzheimer’s may have the disease, but it affects everyone in their network of family and friends. I want to do what I can to help spread the word about this disease, support others caring for their loved ones with the disease, and contribute to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s so more loved ones do not suffer from this disease.
