Continuing and honoring his legacy...

A devoted father, loving husband, and giver to his community and family, R. Frank Russell made an impact and will always be referred to as a legend in his own right. Inducted into the University of Detroit Mercy Hall of Fame in 2020, Russell played three seasons for the men's basketball program, which led him to be the 7th top scorer in the school's history, opening the door to him for him to be drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1972. After his basketball career Russell worked tirelessly to give back to the Pontiac, Michigan and Oakland County communities where he worked to serve constituents while initiating effective changes where needed. An active father to his five children, Russell served as a coach for little league teams and events while also coaching and serving as a father figure to many others.

This scholarship foundation, presented by Russell's youngest son and Founder of The Uptempo Academy, Naazir Russell and on behalf of the Russell family, serves as one of the many ways to honor his legacy and continue what he started. All proceeds will be used for the student athletes who apply to the program in Michigan and Texas needing more financial assistance to attend. The goal is to provide development, training, and exposure so that student athletes are awarded a full scholarship to either a 2-year or 4-year college/university. There are also donation levels indicating specific needs for the program.  Click on Donate Now for options to give.

R. Frank Russell always found a way to give back and this is just one way to honor and continue his legacy.
