What Are We Doing?

We are building a publicly-owned, Wikipedia-like, polling platform that will allow our representatives to quickly and easily ask us how we feel about issues. We are going to give it to them - FREE - and expect them to use it. Then, we can see how everyone feels about issues that affect us. And we can see what our representatives do in the face of that data. That's accountability. That's representation. That's what democracy is all about.

About

AsqUs is an online political dialogue platform that connects you and your elected officials, so your voice can finally be heard.

On Asq.Us, your representatives ask you questions about relevant issues that affect you. The questions show up where you already live - smartphone, social network, email, or on the web. And they will be easy to answer quickly and conveniently, leveraging technology to make representative democracy a reality.

As well, you can ask questions of your representatives, allowing for 2-way dialogue.

The platform is politically neutral and open to everybody. Polling results will be publicly accessible, encouraging more accountability in the political process.

Where are we now?

We have already began building the platform and have built a demo app. It’s a start, but we know the great possibilities and amazing places we can take this concept. We’re bringing town halls to the web, and it’s not going to be easy. That’s why we are counting on your support to help make this happen.

We want this. We want our voices to be heard by those who represent us.

Our representatives want this. We have personally spoken with several state and national representatives who all say the same thing: they want a better way to communicate with their constituency and to know how we feel.

Why do we need your help?

This is a big undertaking, and we need your help to make it possible. Up to this point, the project has been self-funded. But we have servers to run, apps to make, and most importantly, incredibly intelligent and motivated team members to pay.

As a contributor to the project, you will help us grow our team and build the infrastructure required for such an important project. We need additional developers to help make AsqUs scalable and extensible. We will also need additional people to help us meet with your representatives and get AsqUs in their hands.

100% Tax-Deductible

Your donation is 100% tax-deductible, and every little bit helps. We look forward to your support, as well as working together to create a better system for us all.

You can finally have your voice heard, and we will work together to make it happen.

Democracy Is Worth a Dime!

If everybody pitches in a dime ($10), this will definitely work.

Challenges

What we are proposing, although hugely valuable to a flourishing democracy, is also very disruptive. Our elected representatives have never had the ability to easily find out how their constituents feel about issues. And some may not even want to. But we have talked to many, and most are excited about the project. Others, we believe, will follow suit.

There is also a risk that the everyday citizen, you and I, are just too apathetic to care. That might be true if what is required is taking 5 hours to go downtown to a townhall meeting. It shouldn't be that hard. With a free, direct polling platform, our representatives can ask us directly. If it's super convenient, we can respond in a matter of seconds. That is important information for a healthy representative democracy.

Finally, do we have both the technological and organizational ability to get this done? We have been building very successful, enterprise-level, web-based software since the 90s. As well, if we all demand a new paradigm, and provide it, we can truly modernize democracy.
