I was diagnosed at 52 with prostate cancer which is young but I had both sides my mothers and fathers side (dad and uncle) having prostate cancer, granted they were far older when it was diagnosed. Although I was diagnosed early and my age was young for this type of cancer the local doctor still suggested the total removal of the prostate, I was totallty against it for a number or reasons and decided to travel to Dana Farber in Boston for a second opinion. My oncologist is Dr Wei, and there is a video attached with her speaking, she is outstanding to say the least. I have 4 doctors there in total, I will be speaking to the 5th next week regarding the seeds process where they insert radioactive seeds into the prostate as a process. The trips to and from Boston are about 2 1/2 hours.  As a result of my  young age and the cancer on both side, me being an only child and having a daughter, I decided to go for the gentic testing for the BRCA 1/2 gene also known as the cancer gene. I tested postive for that. as a result I have to be far more aggressive in my treatment, and my overall concious behavior about cancer in general. On the 28th of this month I go for another biopsy and later I decide on which treatment I will go shortly there after I will start.the financial burden of cancer is absolutely insane. I will somehow make my treatments in Boston. Its like the world as you know it comes to a hault. Unless you live it I guess its hard to comprehend, at least it was for me.
