For those who know me, you know I have been involved in service for a while. Having spent two years in AmeriCorps. I taught english in L.A.,I rebuilt homes in New Orleans, and wild fire recovery in San Diego, and spent a year with Habitat for Humanity in Florida. As well as short time at an oprhanage and elelphant rescue center in Thailand.
I am excited to have been chosen to be trained as an International trip leader with Habitat International. On March 28th I will be shadowing a trip leader in Malawi, and as I am in training I am required to fundraise my own costs, and need your help.
In Malawi, we will work side by side with a local village helping them build a school and homes, and teaching them durable sustainable construction methods that they will use long after we've left.
Malawi is a country in the southern part of africa. It is one of the most stable countries in Africa, and is begining to develop more and more each year. Malawi is nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa" Part of the program fee is left with the Malawi Habitat for Humanity as donation for future building. Its amazing how far a dollar will go in Malawi.
HFH was founded in the 1970's in Georgia to help alleviate the problem of decent housing. The idea is that shelter is a basic human right that everyone should have, and that if that need is met other things such as jobs and health will be easier to focus on.
Hopefully with enough help i will be able to fund this trip and be able to lead many more in the future. Thanks, Eric Schwartz
