My name is Joshua Lin. I'm an analyst by trade but I've primarily worked in the eCommerce and pets sectors. I'm also a proud dog dad to a beautiful English Bulldog.
What I've found is that - while a lot of companies have entered the pet space to make toys, treats, waste-related products, etc., there is no major player in the space that is committed solely to helping pets and pet parents through social causes. I don't want to start a company that gives shelter pets leftover, returned goods. I want to create an organization, where for every purchase that a pet parent makes, together, we donate 10 pounds of dog food to shelter pets. I want to create a for-profit company that commits to that promise - while incrementally increasing its impact both through food donations as a result of orders but also through other means, like adoption services or helping non-profit vets that help shelters. I want to show pet parents the pets that they are helping with every order. I want to make it as easy as possible for pet parents to give back and help the pets that don't yet have homes.
The products I want to sell are pet-related products. I plan to start with small toys like a frisbee for dogs, hard toys, cat products, but move into essentials like puppy pads and poop bags. For the materials, I want everything to be eco-friendly and sustainably sourced if possible - and of course, pet-safe.
I will spend any funds I can receive on fulfilling my first orders, as well as purchasing the food to donate to animal shelters.
If this project gets off the ground, I plan to move towards figuring out other, more active ways to help shelters rather than just donating food.
