Gay Christian Ministries - Kenya (GCM-Kenya), is a charitable, religious, non-profit community based organization with an aim of offering LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers assistance in form of safe space, accommodation and other vital human needs that they can not get because of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
We are a group of desperate refugees and asylum seekers from different religious, social, ethnic and political backgrounds that can together to support each other after so many evictions, assault, hatred, and rejection by our countries of origin, families, friends and the general homophobic public for being effeminate.
In Kenya, LGBTQ+ individuals constantly face threats to their safety and security, this project will farther equip over 20 individuals in urban Kenya with accommodation, skills and tools necessary to project themselves on the streets of Kenya.
In a recent survey, GCM-Kenya found out that 71% of respondents ages 18-35 years have face brutal arrests, torture by police, or have been evicted from their homes due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. These feelings of insecurity often result into depression or desperation leading to members of the community developing suicidal tendencies or going into sex work as a result of desperation that opens them up to the harsh and hostile world of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Infections.
This initiative will provide and support the beneficiaries with basic needs, information and tools to live a safer and more secure lives, and also provide safe accommodation space for the beneficiaries as they undergo emotion control and therapies to help them cope up with the day to day challenges of life within urban Kenya and this festive season.
Help us achieve the goal of safe accommodation facility and celebrate the festive season by donating to help the homeless LGBT community in Kenya. Part of the donation will be used to buy supplies and food relief for the beneficiaries.
Thank you in advance for your support this festive season towards the realization of safe space, health literacy and psychosocial support to the LGBT community.
