Pray for South Africa

Pray for South Africa

From Linda Harley

This past week civil unrest devastated my hometown Durban in South Africa. Many are sitting without food and resources, and their businesses were burnt down. I'm raising funds to help them through this difficult time.

We have had our first donation! Thank you for caring!

Here's the latest news I received today....

Here is a summary of some of the stores looted, damaged or destroyed:
- 90 pharmacies
- 1400 ATMs
- 300 banks and post offices
- a Cipla medicine factory (one of the biggest in SA)
- 12 Mr Price clothing stores
- 99 Famous Brands Stores (Steers and Wimpy restaurants)
- 32 Cashbuild stores
- 190 Foschini group clothing stores
- 489 Pepkor stores (Pep and Ackermans clothing stores)
- 33 Massmart stores: 10 Game stores, 8 Builders Warehouse and 2 Makro stores.
- 1 blood bank.

Yes that last one shocked me as well. A blood bank? Really?

What would you do if you could no longer get your life saving medicines and didn't know when more would be available? Please pray that the Lord will take care of His children. Please join me by giving to this community.

More Info

My heart was broken this week as I witnessed the civil unrest in South Africa. I stayed up all hours of the night reading messages from my friends coming in over Facebook, as they talked about what was happening. I felt helpless not being able to be there to give them hugs and tell them that it would be all right. All I could do was go before the cross and pray that the Lord would protect them, make His face shine upon them, and provide for all their needs.

Hearing gun shots down their street, hiding in the bedroom with their family and pets, and not knowing whether they would live to see daybreak, was heart wrenching to hear from my friends. I can't begin to imagine what they've been going through, or what the weeks ahead will hold for them.

Cleanup has begun, and it is heart warming to see so many people come out of all colors and nations and help to restore what has been lost. Although I am not there, I want to do my part. What I can do is raise funds.$1 is worth approx R15. A 10kg bag of rice costs $12. 6 cartons of Long life milk is only $6. For people who have lost their jobs and don't know where their next meal is coming from, these prices are unsurmountable. Yet, you and I can make a difference. A dollar goes a LONG way in South Africa. Please consider donating at any level that is comfortable for you.

How will the funds be dispersed?100% of the funds will be wired over to a local church in SA, called the NG Kerk Westville. They know the exact needs of every family in their community and will make sure that those in most need receive the aid they so desperately need.

Two things that YOU can do to help:

1. Share this post with everyone in your circle and help spread the news.

2. Pray that the Lord will show his mercy and grace to those who are suffering.

Warmest regards

Linda
