When the idea for the Community Gardens at a local elementary school sprouted 5 years ago, the main goal for our parent-led organization was to provide an outdoor learning space that was engaging and a direct extension of the classroom.
It sprouted into a movement that will seed 40 elementary campuses with an innovative project based learning program that combines an outdoor learning space, an experiential nutrition initiative (Come and Eat it!), and our signature event: Garden To Table.
As a parent-led 501C3 non-profit organization, Independence Gardens’ has committed to providing the seed of commitment for innovation, engaging learning activities, community and school collaboration through edible school gardening and sustainability practices.
Our mission is simple: To partner with schools and like-minded organizations in developing and implementing experiential edible gardening programs that will provide every student an engaging, meaningful and transformative educational experience. We're tackling childhood hunger and obesity with a single seed.
